The Kenya Women in Insurance Association has been launched with the aim of creating a platform to promote the representation of women in the insurance industry through education, mentorship, and collaboration.
According to Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) Executive Director, Mr. Tom Gichuhi, Kenya had only one women as CEO of an insurance company a decade ago compared to today’s statistics which show that 11 women are heading insurance companies in the country.
The Kenya Women in Insurance Association has also received support from the Insurance Regulator Authority Commissioner, Mr. Godfrey Kiptum, who assured the association of support from IRA.
The Association was founded by ten women working in various organisations within the insurance industry. They include Catherine Wahome as President, Njeri Njomo as Vice President, Rose Wanda as General Secretary, Hazel King’ori as Social/Publicity Secretary, Irene Makau as Assistant Social/Publicity Secretary, Stella Njunge as Treasurer, Jane Onimbo as Membership Secretary, Beatrice Onduso as Education Secretary, Diana Sawe and Madeline Nangayo as Ex- Officio Members.
The Kenya Women in Insurance was launched at the side-lines of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO) Conference that took place in Nairobi last week.
