The 29th Annual Assemblies and the Extraordinary Congress of the East African Communications Organization (EACO) has kicked off in Nairobi, Kenya.
The weeklong event, under the theme, ‘Promoting digital transformation in the EAC region,’ is being hosted by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
Mr. Eliud Owalo, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, officially opened the event, calling on the EAC member states to work together towards dealing the region’s full potential in the digital economy.
”As the EAC grows with additional member states, our collective strength towards implementing some of these bold and progressive ideas should be more emboldened,” said Mr. Owalo.
Speaking at the event, CA Director General Mr. David Mugonyi said with a majority of government services moving online, the Authority is taking proactive measures to enhance cybersecurity readiness and scaling up the threat detection and prevention capabilities.
He also added that CA has implemented a Regulatory Sandbox to allow for the controlled use of emerging innovations and testing of new ideas before deployment to the market, and spur innovation in the ICT sector.
