Kenya’s leading diversified financial services group Sanlam Kenya Plc has joined the United Nations Global Compact.
Sanlam Kenya was welcomed to the movement by Global Compact Network Kenya (GCNK) Executive Director Judy Njino and joins over 23,000 participants in 162 countries globally that have committed to aligning their operations with the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
Speaking at the certificate handover ceremony, Global Compact Network Kenya (GCNK) Kenya Executive Director Judy Njino noted that as a diversified financial services company, Sanlam has numerous opportunities to create shared value. By providing mechanisms for individuals, vulnerable populations, and small businesses to save and protect their wealth, the company can deepen financial inclusion which in turn can enhance economic stability.
“We believe, together with the UN Global Compact, Sanlam Kenya has a unique opportunity to be a change agent & strong champion to advance Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues in the overall financial services sector.” She added.
On his part, Sanlam Kenya Group CEO Dr. Dr. Nyamemba Patrick Tumbo EBS added that sustainability is a journey of continuous improvement and by joining the UN Global Compact, Sanlam Kenya’s reaffirms its commitment to advancing sustainable business practices through partnerships that can advance the achievement of the SDGs as we work together towards a common purpose and a common future.
Finally,Ms. Njino made a call to other companies to join the UN Global Compact noting that the organization is ready to support businesses to assess, define, implement, measure, and communicate their sustainability strategy through local, regional & global platforms.
