Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation State Department For Water And Sanitation announces the KES 300 Billion Water 10,000 Initiative
The Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation is planning to commit over KES300 Billion towards the Water 10,000 Initiative.
This transformative program aims to address Kenya’s water and sanitation challenges, ensuring access to clean water and proper sanitation for all citizens.
According to estimates from the national water master plan 2030, water demand is projected to rise significantly by 2030, underscoring the need for more investment.
Presently, Kenya’s total water reservoir storage capacity is below the recommended threshold, leaving millions underserved.
The Water 10,000 Initiative targets low-cost, high-impact interventions such as water supply projects, community boreholes, and sanitation improvements. It will cover all 290 constituencies, creating jobs and driving economic growth.
By investing KES300 Billion, the Ministry aims to provide water to 6.1 million households and address sanitation needs for 1.7 million households, including achieving Open Defecation Free Status in 13 counties.
The Ministry remains committed to achieving universal access to clean water and proper sanitation by the year 2030, ensuring a better future for all Kenyans.
