Massive motorcycle entry for Africa Concours d’Elegance
The Africa Concours d’Elegance which is already nearing the full entry limit of 40 motorcycles will make maximum use of the Nairobi Racecourse parade ring on September 29th for officials to judge gleaming highly prepared bikes from Zimbabwe, Uganda and Kenya.
The event which celebrate the anniversary of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club will be the 52nd in the annual series and this year brings onboard Stanbic Bank as one of the key partners supporting the Concours.
Robert Gow the Chief motorcycle Judge commented, “I am delighted, absolutely delighted that we are nearing a full house well before the final entry deadline of Friday 13th in September.”
“Teams from the Uganda Bikers Association and the Pearl Bikers Africa will be riding from Uganda on routes through several countries before reaching Nairobi in good time for the Concours on September 29th.”
The Uganda Bikers Association has been placed in three groups by the Chairman Allan Mutumba.
One will travel through Rwanda, Tanzania to Mombasa and end in Nairobi. The Rwanda contingent will start on September 14th and will be joined by two riders from Zimbabwe before reaching Nairobi.
Another group will visit Mombasa before charging into Nairobi the day before the Concours. The third contingent will ride directly between Kampala and Nairobi with one overnight stop.
The Pearl Bikers Africa have drawn up an elaborate plan which will raise funds for the Nyumba ya Wazee which is run by the Little Sisters of the Poor at Kasarani to care for destitute old people.
The group led by Gianfranco Masetto on his BMW R1200 GSA will straddle their machines on September 19th in Kampala to head for Bukoba. Their next night stop will be in Mwanza then Singida in Tanzania, before entering Kenya at the Oloitokitok boarder control.
Gianfranco Masetto has participated in the classiest event on the Kenya motorsport calendar for ten years. Other riders in the Pearl Bikers team include Edgar Mbabazi who is riding a BMW K1600 T Tourer and Enzo Amato with his massive Honda Gold Wing resembling a car on two wheels.
Allan Mutumba the Chairman of the Uganda Bikers Association (UBA) will be leading his team riding his BMW R1200 GSA. Other UBA riders includes Isaac Kalusiman who has visited the Nairobi Racecourse regularly for several years and a newcomer Timothy Arinathaiwe astride a Honda Africa Twin CRF1000.
It is anticipated that the Ugandans will capture several podium places in the touring and trail bikes classes. They will return to Kampala taking two days for the journey with one overnight rest.
By the time the Ugandans reach their homes the Pearl Bikers Africa team will have covered over 2,775 kilometers.
