Kenya has won the coveted bid to host the 2024 Transform Africa Summit (TAS) convened by the Smart Africa Alliance(SAA),a Pan-African Agency for ICTs.
The announcement of Kenya’s win was welcomed by various stakeholders and which was made by Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in Barcelona,Spain on the sidelines of the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC-24).
Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Information,Communications and the Digital Economy welcomed the move “the achievement was a sign of confidence in Kenya’s unrivalled leadership in the ICT landscape.” He said.
“This win is a testament to the confidence that the Smart Africa Alliance (SAA) has on Kenya on ICT power house,and a leader in championing the regions efforts in leveraging the power of ICTs for socio-economic development”.CS Owalo stated.
He added that Kenyans has accepted the outcome with great sense of humility and they are now embarking on the preparations for delivering a world class event later this year.
“We accept the win with utmost joy and humility,as it marks on the beginning of the great journey ahead which will culminate the hosting of the event in August 2024.” Mr.Owalo added.
He acknowledged the efforts of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) chaired by Prof.Edward Kisiangani, the Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications,and the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) for their tireless efforts and dedication as well as commitment in delivering a winning bid to the Country.
CA Board Chairperson Ms.Mary Mungai said hosting the event would give the Authority an opportunity to shape conversations on Sustainable digital economy on the Continent and World at large.
“Hosting this event provides us the front row experience on the future of digital transformation efforts on the continent,and how we must foster ahead and work across borders to forge a sustainable digital economy in the region”.She observed.
This is the first time Kenya is holding the event for over 10 years in history of Smart Africa Alliance (SAA),an opportunity that the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) Director General (DG)Mr.David Mugonyi says will leverage, interact and share the best practices with peers in the Region to address emerging challenges in the dynamic ICT environment.
Mugonyi said “Hosting our peers from the region provides us with an opportunity to share experiences and best practices and more importantly to forge a common and united front in leveraging ICTs for development of the economies.”
The Transform Africa Summit (TAS) is held annually by the Smart Africa Alliance (SAA) as the continent’s leading forum bringing together the global and regional leaders from Government, Business and International Organizations to collaborate on new ways of shaping, accelerating and Sustaining Africa’s on-going digital revolution.
TAS brings together over 5,000 delegates across the World and Africa to shape the future of Africa’s Digital Transformation.
