H.E Sakaja Arthur Johnson has today been sworn in as the 4th Governor of Nairobi City County.
Governor Sakaja and His Deputy Dr.James Njoroge Muchiri took oath of the office at a swearing in ceremony held at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC),Nairobi.
Governor Sakaja takes over the City County leadership from Ann Kananu who assumed the office of the County governor after the impeachment of the former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Outgoing Nairobi City County first woman Governor Ms. Ann Kananu handed over the instruments of power to Governor Sakaja.
Speaking after the inauguration,Governor Sakaja Johnson committed to work with all Nairobi City County stakeholders to creat opportunities for all, restore order and give hope to the citizens of Nairobi.
Said Governor Sakaja,“we are ready to write the next chapter in Nairobi City County’s history. We commit to enable residents of Nairobi to play their part as active citizens in building communities and holding public offices accountable.”
Governor Sakaja acknowledged his competitor Polycap Igathe citing him as a true embodiment of clean politics. Sakaja thanked all his predecessors whom he said have played a part to bring Nairobi where it is today.Sakaja also thanked Nairobi residents for maintaining peace during and after the elections.
Deputy Governor H.E Dr. James Muchiri affirmed that they are more than ever prepared to deliver to Nairobians.
Muchiri called for cooperation from all county stakeholders inorder to enable them deliver on their mandates and pledges promised during campaigns.
The outgoing Nairobi Governor H.E Ann Kananu congratulated H.E Sakaja and his deputy Dr. James Muchiri and all the newly elected leaders of Nairobi City County Assembly as they take the leadership of the City County.
Kananu encouraged Governor Sakaja to speedily pick up the mantle to serve Nairobians and Nairobi County staff with alot of sobriety,devotion,humility compassion, and vision. She also urged County staff to accord the new governor
much needed support to enable him achieve the dream of making Nairobi the city of order and dignity hope and opportunity.
President elect H.E William Ruto who graced the swearing in ceremony congratulated Governor Sakaja and all other governors who were sworn in today, and especially to the seven elected women governors.
The President elect pledged that the government will work with all governors to make Kenya great.
Nairobi Metropolitan services( NMS) Director General Lieutenant Mohammed Badi said that NMS is more than ready to handover the transfered services back to the county, having complited all assignments given. Lieutenant Badi said he is ready to support the County government where needed.
