As Kenya strides toward a digital future, the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) is set to play a pivotal role in transforming the nation’s e-commerce landscape.
During the 150th World Post Day celebrations, Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, outlined ambitious government plans to revitalize the postal sector.
This initiative aligns with the 2020 National ICT Policy Guidelines and seeks to position postal and courier services as essential drivers in Kenya’s digital economy.
Prof. Kisiang’ani emphasized the integration of postal services into the burgeoning digital marketplace, stating, “The government is determined to improve the delivery of essential services by leveraging the existing postal network, ultimately bridging the gap between e-commerce and e-government services.”
His message resonated with the evolving nature of commerce, where Mr. John Tonui, Postmaster General, underscored the significance of e-commerce as a critical backbone of modern trade.
With projections estimating the continent’s e-commerce market poised to reach $75 billion by 2025, the role of the Postal Corporation becomes even more crucial as consumer shifts toward online platforms accelerate.
In a landscape where innovation drives economic growth, the government is committed to attracting investments and fostering infrastructure development that supports national strategic objectives, including the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
