The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) has approved the acquisition of Mayhouse Limited, the company that owns 680 hotel, by Maanzoni Lodge Limited.
The acquisition comes at a time the hospitality industry is recovering from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mayhouse Limited, owned by Christopher Musau is a limited liability company incorporated in Kenya.
It majors in providing hospitality services under the trade name Maanzoni Lodge located in Athi River, Machakos County.
The 680 Hotel, the target, engages in renting hotel rooms both for accommodation and conferencing purposes as well as leasing spaces for use as shops, office spaces, and churches.
This undertaking will see Maanzoni Lodge Limited acquire the entire issued capital of Mintea Corp, the parent company of Mayhouse Limited thus resulting in to complete change of control.
“The transaction, therefore, qualified as a merger within the meaning of section 2 and 41 of the Competition number 12 of 2010 and subject to full analysis,” read the statement.
680 Hotel, which is associated with business mogul and billionaire Jagdesh Patel, was placed on sale in September 2018.
After the Covid pandemic hit the hospitality industry, resulting in the loss of jobs and some hotels such as Inter-Continental hotel permanently closed, 680 Hotel was sold at approximately Sh. 1.2 billion to Maanzoni Lodge Limited.
