- Ajman Transport” and “Visa” collaborate to implement contactless payment on buses
The Transportation Authority in Ajmanand Visa, a global leader in digital payments, have signed an agreement to enable the acceptance of open contactless payments on public transport buses in Ajman, in line with the emirate’s smart mobility goals.
The agreement allows bus passengers in Ajman to pay for their trips using Visa contactless cards or their mobile devices that support contactless payment.
The agreement was signed by Eng. Sami Ali Khamis Al Jallaf, The Executive Director of the Public Transport and Licensing corporation at the Transport Authority — Ajman, and Salima Gutieva, Visa’s Vice President and Country Manager for the UAE, in the presence of His Excellency Omar Mohammed Lootah, Director General of the Ajman Transport Authority, and Michael Berner, Visa’s Head of Merchant Sales and Acquiring for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa.
The agreement stipulated enhancing cooperation by building partnership relations between the two parties to achieve common strategic goals, and simplifying the passenger experience by implementing a contactless payment system in transportation for the first time in the country.
His Excellency Omar Mohammed Lootah, Director General of the Ajman Transport Authority, said, “Adopting a contactless payment system has become an urgent necessity in light of the government digital acceleration witnessed by the UAE in all fields, especially in the transportation system.”
He added: “The agreement aims to develop the field of digital payment in transportation in the Emirate of Ajman, as part of the authority’s strategy to support urban mobility through smart and sustainable solutions that contribute to facilitating the customer experience and making it exceptional”.
Michael Berner, Visa’s Head of Merchant Sales and Acquiring for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Visa is delighted to collaborate with the Transportation Authority in Ajman to promote the adoption of digital payments in the field of transportation,” adding: “After operating more than 700 projects worldwide, we eagerly anticipate bringing our expertise in contactless payments and urban mobility to Ajman.
