Telecommunications and mobile service provider, Airtel Africa Plc, has confirmed that Segun Ogunsanya, its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who was appointed in April has assumed his role at the telecommunication firm.
Ogunsanya replaces Raghunath Mandava as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer who informed the Board of his intention to retire in April.
“…further to the Company’s appointment of Olusegun “Segun” Ogunsanya, as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Segun has begun his new role as at 1 October 2021 and joined the Board of Airtel Africa plc,” read a statement from the telecom.
The firm noted that his vast experience in various leadership roles across telecoms, banking and consumer goods made him the best fit for the role.
He previously served as the Managing Director and CEO of Airtel Nigeria and was responsible for the overall management of the operations in the Company’s largest market.
“He has more than 25 years of business management experience in banking,
consumer goods, and telecoms. He has held leadership roles at Coca-Cola in Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya (as Managing Director and CEO). He has also been the Managing Director of Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd (Coca-Cola Hellenic owned) and Group head of retail banking operations at Ecobank Transnational Inc, covering 28 countries in Africa.” it said.
Upon his appointment, Ogunsanya assured that he would spearhead the company’s aim to expand financial inclusion and meet the growing needs of its customers.
“I am looking forward to building on the solid foundations the Group has established for future sustainable growth across Africa. Moving forward, we will invest even more in our network and distribution channels to serve the communities where we operate,” he said.
