
Tom Gitogo newly elected Chairman of the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI)
- Tom Gitogo Elected Chairman of the Association of Kenya Insurers;
Mr. Tom Gitogo has been elected Chairman of the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) during the Association’s 38th Annual General Meeting on 20th March 2025.
Mr. Gitogo, the Group Managing Director and CEO of Britam Holdings PLC, succeeds Mr. Nixon Shigoli, Country CEO of MUA Insurance, who has served since March 2023.
His leadership comes at a time when AKI is driving digital transformation to enhance efficiency and combat fraud.
In his address to members, Mr. Gitogo emphasized the need for insurers to adapt to emerging risks, including climate change and artificial intelligence, which are reshaping business operations.
He also highlighted the upcoming IFRS 18 standard, set for implementation in 2027, which will impact financial reporting and disclosure requirements.
With over 30 years of experience in the financial services sector, Mr. Gitogo brings a wealth of expertise to AKI.
Additionally, Dr. Peter Gichuru, Managing Director of Geminia Life Insurance, and Mr. Githua Ngaruiya, Managing Director of Madison Life Insurance, were elected to the AKI Board.
During the AGM, Definite Insurance was ratified as a new member, bringing AKI’s total membership to 54 insurance companies and five reinsurance firms as associate members.
The AKI Board, comprising 11 CEOs from member companies, serves as the Association’s highest governance body.
