26th August, 2021…SportPesa Foundation has boosted healthcare in Bomet
County with a donation of Intensive Care Unit medical equipment to
Longisa Hospital and the completion of a kitchen unit at Ndarawetta
Health Center, which has been fully funded by the Foundation.
SportPesa CEO Captain Ronald Karauri officially handed over the ICU
equipment worth Ksh1.2 million to Bomet County Governor H.E Dr. Hillary
Barchok and the Longisa Hospital administration at the facility.
“I would like to sincerely thank SportPesa Foundation for the donation
of these ICU beds and equipment that will go a long way in addressing
the health challenges especially now that ICU units in nearby areas like
Kisumu are full due to the new COVID variant,” said Governor Hillary
Barchok adding that Longisa hospital as the biggest oxygen manufacturing
plant in the area and supplies even private hospitals in the South Rift
region.
SportPesa Foundation officially opened the Ndarawetta Dispensary
Kitchen. In March, the foundation launched its maternal health
initiative at this dispensary by donating equipment for the hospital’s
new maternity wing and supporting the construction of a kitchen to serve
the wing.
“In March this year we committed to support maternal health across the
country and continue to do it. SportPesa Foundation remains committed in
supporting the women in this country, to ensure they have access to good
maternal health care,” said SportPesa CEO Captain Ronald Karauri.
In providing the support, SportPesa Foundation is complementing the
admirable work being undertaken by SportPesa 3rd Mega Jackpot winner
Cosmas Korir who hails from Bomet county. Korir, who won Ksh208 million
_SportPesa Mega Jackpot_ in 2018, has used some of his winnings to help
renovate various health facilities in Bomet County. This is in
fulfilment of a promise that he made when he won.
“I thank SportPesa Foundation for donating this equipment. When I won,
I committed to support my community and assisting to renovate these
facilities is only one step. I remain committed to doing so in order to
help uplift my county,” said Mr Korir who continues to game on the
SportPesa platform.
“It is a privilege to be back in Bomet County, where we initially
launched our maternal health initiative. Over and above opening the
Ndarawetta Dispensary kitchen we are here to support Cosmas Korir, one
of our winners. We are proud of the work he is doing to uplift his
community and urge all winners to give back to the communities they come
from,” added Captain Karauri.
Since the launch of its maternal health initiative, in March 2021,
SportPesa has supported health facilities in Nairobi, Bomet, Kiambu and
Meru giving over Ksh10 million. SportPesa Foundation remains committed
in supporting communities in areas of sports and education, maternal
care and ending period poverty by promoting menstrual hygiene projects.
