Vipingo Development Limited a wholly owned subsidiary of Centum Re has awarded scholarships to a fresh cohort of 50 students from Vipingo area in Kilifi County. This marks the eighth consecutive year of issuing sponsorships to bright learners from underprivileged families who would otherwise not have joined secondary school.
The impact of this scholarship has seen a remarkable improvement in KCPE performance from Vipingo area primary schools as dedicated learners try to achieve the Vipingo scholarship pass mark. Additionally, over 80 Vipingo scholars have joined universities.
Centum RE believes education is one of the most important tools to empower and transform a society. The company currently educates 400 students investing over KES 15M annually and over KES 100M since the scholarship inception. This year, after a rigorous selection process, 50 students were awarded scholarships from 21 primary schools. The scholars are expected to join National and County schools from 15th January 2024.
Mr. Mbae congratulated the students for their remarkable performance in their K.C.P.E. as they proceed to join various schools. He encouraged them to enjoy and excel in their high school studies through hard work, discipline and improving their best performance. He encouraged them to improve the lives of their families and the community.
Vipingo Development scholarship program forms part of Vipingo Development’s broader CSR initiative in the region that has seen the building of classrooms and libraries at four primary schools including Makonde, Timboni, Mkwajuni and Kadzinuni Primary School.
Vipingo Development also runs a fully sponsored vocational technical training program aimed at equipping youth from the neighboring community with technical skills.
To date over 150 youth have received training and graduated and some of whom have since found employment within the development.
