Microsoft the Technology giant has named Kunle Awosika as the new Managing Director of the Africa Transformation Office (ATO), its subsidiary charged with driving digital transformation initiatives across the continent.
Kunle succeeds Wael Elkabbany, who has been appointed head of Microsoft’s Africa Regional Cluster.
Kunle has held several positions at Microsoft ($MSFT), including director of Enterprise Business and Country Manager Microsoft Kenya, as well as director of Small and Medium Corporates, Emerging Markets.
He was also one of three pioneer team members when Microsoft opened its Nigeria office.
He has over 22 years of experience having worked in multiple countries across the continent and is credited with the introduction of different transformational technology solutions to a wide range of organizations in both the public and private sectors.
Launched in 2021, the ATO is focused on enabling growth and fuelling investment in four essential development areas – digital infrastructure, skilling, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and start-ups.
In early March Microsoft’s premier engineering hub, the African Development Centre (ADC), is relocating to its own offices in Nairobi, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the continent this is after three years of successful operation in Kenya,
The ADC will now be based at Dunhill Towers along Waiyaki Way in its new ultra-modern state-of-the-art facility, the first of its kind serving the East African region.
The facility will house the engineering, design, research, and innovation teams, as well as the Microsoft Garage, an incubation hub launched as part of the ongoing efforts to scale tech innovation in the continent.
